Postdoctoral opportunities

Want to be hosted by the SPMQT Lab for an ARC DECRA project? See information from UQ here or contact Peter.

The ARC DECRA scheme has a ~20% success rate, projects run for 3 years, and the grant pays your salary plus about $50k AUD/year research funding. UQ also has a program ‘UQ Amplify’, which offers to extend your contract by an additional 2 years (5 years total), in exchange for doing some teaching.

Sponsorship for Feodor Lynen Research Fellowships from the Humboldt Foundation is available. Open to German PhD holders.

PhD / Higher degrees by research (HDR) positions
PhD positions are officially advertised through UQ Jobs. If you are interested in pursuing a PhD in the group, please contact Peter or submit an application.

Sept 2025: A fully PhD position will be advertised soon, link up when advertised.

Domestic PhD / HDR positions
If you’ve completed Honours at an Australian university, you are likely eligible for funding via the Research Training Program. Please contact Peter to lodge your interest.

Honours/Masters positions
Looking to make your first steps in the research world? Honours/Masters students will be trained by our expert team with the aim of independently operating the STM/AFM. Previous students have published their Honours work in peer-reviewed journals. Semester 1 or 2 starts are possible.

Current UQ students
If you are at UQ and interested in summer or winter research projects, see this page for details. These projects would have you shadow a team member and get a feel for a real research environment.

Capstone students: These are short research projects as part of PHYS3900. Similar to the Summer/Winter Projects, you would shadow a team member.

If you want to learn more about what we do, contact Peter to join the SPMQT journal club.
